  • Salmonella can cause severe illness, especially in vulnerable groups.

Israel's Ministry of Health has issued an urgent recall for ground black pepper products from the "Gal Spices" brand. The action was taken after the ministry's food service found high concentrations of toxins, specifically aflatoxins, in the product. Aflatoxins are naturally occurring fungal toxins that can cause long-term health issues.

The recall specifically targets ground black pepper produced by "Tavel Spices and Food Products Ltd." with an expiration date up to February 2028. The affected products come in 50-gram bags, and 50-gram, 80-gram, and 120-gram plastic jars.

In a separate but related action, the Ministry of Health also recalled a Moroccan carrot salad product from the "Class Food" brand due to the presence of Salmonella bacteria. This product, manufactured by "Falafel BaRibuah Food Industries Ltd.," is sold in 250-gram packages with an expiration date of October 12, 2026, and was produced on September 7, 2026.

Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain in healthy individuals. In vulnerable populations, including young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems, the infection can be severe and potentially fatal.

Consumers are urged not to consume either of the recalled products. The ministry stated that the black pepper was produced in violation of regulations.
