Ex-Mossad Chief Yossi Cohen Joins Quantum Tech Firm, Stock Surges
Former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen has joined the Israeli quantum technology company Quantum X Labs, which is traded on the Nasdaq under the symbol QXL. Cohen will serve as the president of the company's Scientific Advisory Board. Following the announcement, Quantum X Labs' stock price jumped over 13% during Nasdaq trading.
Quantum X Labs develops quantum technologies across various fields, including quantum computing, quantum error correction, sensing, navigation, and quantum cybersecurity. The company targets applications in defense, aviation, space, and critical infrastructure. Their innovations include a neutral atom-based quantum computing platform, a quantum error correction architecture, and a quantum gyroscope for navigation in GPS-denied environments. They are also involved in atomic clocks and simulations for nuclear and life sciences.
"We did not appoint Yossi Cohen to be a representative on our letterhead," stated CEO Vicky Barness. "Our developments will be tested in the real world, not just in the lab." Cohen explained that after reviewing several deep-tech and quantum companies, he chose Quantum X Labs due to its combination of human capital and technological potential. He joins a scientific advisory board that includes Professor Oren Korland from the Technion and Professor Oren Raz from the Weizmann Institute.
This appointment follows several other roles Cohen has taken on since concluding his term as Mossad chief in 2021, including positions related to SoftBank, Doral, Claroty, and Aerodrom. In a separate development, current Mossad chief David Barnea was appointed Global President and Chairman of Ondas Defense in August, reportedly without a cooling-off period.
