Dramatic Weather Shift Expected in Israel: Heatwave to Break with Unusual Rainfall

Israel is bracing for a significant weather transformation this week, as a severe heatwave is forecast to break, giving way to unseasonably heavy rainfall. Following several days of intense heat, dryness, and temperatures well above the seasonal average, a substantial decline in the heat is expected towards the end of the week. This shift will be accompanied by a rain system unusual for this time of year.

From Tuesday through Thursday, the country will experience hot and dry conditions, with particularly low humidity in mountainous and inland areas. Temperatures will soar, reaching up to 41 degrees Celsius in Eilat, 40 in Beit She'an, 38 in Ein Gedi, and 37 in Tiberias. Coastal plains will see temperatures between 37-38 degrees Celsius, while Beersheba and Mitzpe Ramon will reach around 35 degrees, and Lod 33 degrees. Even mountainous and coastal regions will be hot, with Jerusalem's mountains at 33-35 degrees, Safed at 33, Tel Aviv at 32, and Haifa at 31 degrees.

The dramatic change is anticipated to begin on Friday, with temperatures dropping across the country. Simultaneously, a rain system is expected to move in, bringing showers to the north and center. The rainfall is predicted to start Friday morning and continue through Saturday evening.

What makes this system particularly unusual are the expected precipitation amounts. Some areas could receive 5 to 10 millimeters of rain over the weekend. This is a significant figure for September, when the monthly average is typically only 2-3 millimeters. In essence, the system could deliver three to four times the average monthly rainfall for September within just a day and a half.
