Singer and songwriter Yonatan Razel was released this morning, Sunday, from Shaare Zedek Medical Center in good condition, after several weeks of hospitalization following a brain hemorrhage. His discharge ends a difficult period in which prayers for his recovery spread across Israel.
Shaare Zedek said Razel received extensive supportive care from the hospital’s neurology teams. His treatment involved the neuro-intensive care unit led by Dr. Stefan Mausbach, the neuro-radiology unit headed by Dr. Yaakov Amsalem, and the neurosurgery department under Dr. Nevo Margalit. The hospital said that because of the rapid diagnosis and professional treatment he received upon arrival, and the support provided throughout his stay, Razel has returned to normal, full functioning.
The hospital added, “We congratulate Yonatan and the family upon their discharge from the medical center and wish him complete health and continued creation and contribution to our culture.” Razel’s family said, “We are full of gratitude to the Holy One, blessed be He, for the open miracles He performed for us. Thank you very much to the wonderful people of Israel for the prayers and concern for Yonatan’s well-being. And last but not least, a great and special thank you to all the staff of Shaare Zedek Medical Center, the doctors and nurses, for their devoted treatment.”
About two weeks ago, Razel had suffered a severe stroke and was hospitalized in serious condition. His brother, musician Aharon Razel, said at the time that Yonatan had been admitted because of bleeding in his head, that the diagnosis was very fast, and that he was in intensive care for observation while fully conscious, communicating, and without damage. In recent days, widespread prayer efforts were held for him, including a prayer at the Ohel of the Lubavitcher Rebbe in New York by singer Shuli Rand and his wife Tzofit, who placed a note asking for an immediate complete recovery for “Yonatan Adi ben Chaya Rachel.” Despite his condition, the family also held the engagement celebration of his daughter Rivki Razel and Avraham Yeshayahu Ben David in the intensive care unit, with close relatives present; the party was held ליד his bed and he joined the family celebration. Rivki Razel herself had survived a serious fall from a roof in Jerusalem’s Nahlaot neighborhood in 2010 and later recovered after a long rehabilitation.
