Rabbi Abraham Yehoshua Halevi Soloveitchik, the Brisk yeshiva head, suffered a significant deterioration in his condition on Monday while hospitalized in intensive care at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem. He had been expected to be discharged that day after a marked improvement over the past week, and his relatives had prepared for his release, but he was returned to intensive care in the afternoon.
According to the report, the rabbis and supporters were informed of the setback and immediately held communal prayers at the Brisk yeshiva in Jerusalem. Transportation was also arranged to the gravesite, and additional prayer gatherings were expected later at night in ultra-Orthodox communities in Israel and abroad, with thousands of his students, admirers, and other Jews praying for his full and speedy recovery.
Soloveitchik has been hospitalized for two weeks after undergoing heart surgery at a hospital in central Israel. His condition worsened afterward, and during his stay he has received attentive care. The hospital also assigned him a special room so he could pray on Shabbat.
The public was called on to “tear open the gates of heaven” and pray for Rabbi Abraham Yehoshua ben Atill for a complete recovery among the other sick of Israel.
