Ponevezh Yeshiva Urges Prayers as Rabbi Chaim Brerman’s Condition Worsens
Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak has been closely following the condition of Rabbi Chaim Brerman, described as one of the great diligent scholars of his generation, after a long period of weakness. On Monday, his condition worsened when he developed breathing difficulties and pneumonia, and he was hospitalized at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer.
At the end of the general shiur, Rabbi David Levi asked the thousands of Ponevezh students to recite Psalms for Brerman’s full recovery. His son, Rabbi Yisrael Brerman, then led the prayer at the podium.
Ahead of Shavuot, the yeshiva head, Rabbi Baruch Dov Poverksy, issued a special letter calling on students to pray for him. In the letter, he wrote that Rabbi Chaim ben Reisha Rizel Brerman has long been a model for the yeshiva, likening him to Joshua, “who did not depart from the tent,” and said his Torah, awe of Heaven, and prayers have deeply influenced the yeshiva.
Poverksy added that the students are obligated to share his suffering, increase Torah study, good deeds, and prayers, and asked that they merit to benefit from Brerman’s light for many more years in health and peace. The public has also been urged to pray for Rabbi Chaim ben Reisha Rizel among the sick of Israel.
