Health Ministry Urges Flu Vaccinations Ahead of Winter Season

As Israel braces for the upcoming winter, the Ministry of Health is calling on the public, particularly those at high risk, to get vaccinated against the flu. Hospitals and health maintenance organizations (HMOs) are preparing for an anticipated rise in respiratory illnesses, including influenza, COVID-19, and RSV.

The Ministry has issued directives to healthcare providers outlining winter preparedness measures. These include increasing professional staffing, isolating patients with respiratory symptoms, and utilizing protective equipment as needed. Hospitals are expected to manage potential surges in patient numbers.

HMOs have been instructed to expand vaccination site availability, enhance public awareness campaigns about the importance of vaccination, and prepare for extended operating hours and increased use of telehealth services to bolster community-based care. The directives also cover vaccinations against COVID-19 and pneumococcus according to medical guidelines, ensuring children complete their routine immunizations, and encouraging healthcare workers to get the flu vaccine.

The Ministry's call to action comes amid concerns about potential increases in illness, with preparations being made to mitigate the impact of the winter season on public health. Approximately 400 vaccination points are already operational across the country.
