Opposition Leader Lapid Links Budget Support to Cutting Coalition Funds
Opposition leader Yair Lapid has conditioned his support for a defense budget increase on the cancellation of coalition funds, which he described as "corrupt." During a security briefing with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Lapid stated his support for allocating additional funds to the IDF. However, he stipulated that the funding should not come at the expense of tax increases for the middle class and reservists.
Instead, Lapid proposed that the government cancel "corrupt coalition funds" and the billions of shekels allocated to finance what he termed "Haredi draft-dodging." He asserted that if these measures are adopted, his party would support the proposal in the Knesset. Lapid's office released this statement following the security update with Netanyahu.
