Two Assailants Attack Woman Wearing Star of David in Berlin

In central Berlin, two unidentified individuals attacked a 43-year-old woman after noticing a Star of David necklace she was wearing. According to police, the men approached the woman, began verbally abusing her, and one attempted to strike her with a broken glass bottle. The woman sustained cuts to her hand while defending herself and was taken to the hospital. The assailants fled the scene and their identities remain unknown. The state security division of the Berlin criminal police is investigating the incident, which occurred on a busy street. This is not the first such attack in the area; a similar incident involving a Jewish American woman wearing a Star of David was reported in the summer of 2024. The attack aligns with a reported rise in antisemitic incidents in Berlin. The RIAS Berlin research center documented 2,197 antisemitic incidents in 2025, with police recording 2,268 such crimes, exceeding previous years' figures. The Israeli Embassy in Germany condemned the attack, stating, "This is what antisemitic hatred looks like, turning into violence." The embassy urged German political parties to adopt a firm stance against antisemitism and violence targeting Jews.
