Israel Welcomes First Babies of New Jewish Year 5787

Israel marked the beginning of the Jewish year 5787 with the birth of two babies, the first of the new year. In Tel Aviv, a boy was born at Ichilov Hospital's Lis Maternity Ward at 6:39 PM, weighing 3.995 kilograms. His parents, Tamar and Assaf, arrived at the hospital just before the holiday began, celebrating the new year with their newborn. A hospital representative stated, "They arrived at the maternity ward today and gave birth already in the new Jewish year," also noting midwife Diana Dvash.

In Tiberias, another baby, a girl, was born within the first hours of 5787 at the Poriya Medical Center. Her mother, Odiya Cohen Ellishvili from Hodiyot, had traveled to Tiberias with her husband Tal and their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Noam to celebrate Rosh Hashanah with her parents. Experiencing mild contractions at 39 weeks pregnant, they decided to stop at the maternity ward for a check-up on their way. Labor progressed rapidly, and she was quickly moved to the delivery room. The baby was born naturally, weighing 3.060 kilograms, and is now eagerly awaited by her older sister Noam.

Staff at Poriya's maternity ward expressed their joy, with shift supervisor Tahrir Masalha and her assistant Nadal stating, "For us as a team, there is no more exciting way to start the new year than with a birth and new life. It is a great honor to be with the family at such a moment, especially at the start of the new year with its joy and hope." For both families, the first day of 5787 will forever be associated with these special and symbolic births, providing a unique story for their children about their unusual birthdays.
