Updated Peugeot 408 Arrives in Israel with Lower Price, Enhanced Features

The refreshed Peugeot 408 has been launched in Israel, featuring updated styling and improved powertrain options. The vehicle, first unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 2022, underwent a facelift that includes a new bumper, redesigned lighting units with illuminated accents, new wheel designs, and a prominent illuminated "PEUGEOT" script on the rear. Inside, the GT trim level now comes standard with premium features.

The plug-in hybrid version sees its electric motor strengthened and its battery capacity increased to 14.6 kWh, extending its electric-only range to 85 kilometers. It now utilizes a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission instead of the previous 8-speed automatic, with a combined output of 240 horsepower, a 15 horsepower increase. The 1.2-liter "PureTech" engine has been replaced by an updated version with a timing chain and mild-hybrid assistance, producing 145 horsepower and paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. This powertrain offers improved fuel efficiency, rated at 19.6 km per liter, and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 9.4 seconds.

In terms of equipment, the new model arrives in the top-tier GT trim. Standard features include a digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch multimedia screen, wireless smartphone connectivity, rain and light sensors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The GT trim adds electrically adjustable front seats with heating and massage functions, memory settings for the driver's seat, Nappa leather upholstery, 360-degree cameras, a wireless charging pad, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, and an electric tailgate. Enhanced safety systems are also included, such as adaptive cruise control with lane centering and cross-traffic alert with braking.

Despite the advanced safety features, the vehicle has a safety rating of 4 out of 8 from the Ministry of Transport, partly due to some systems being alert-only and the absence of features like a child presence warning. The model received a 4-star Euro NCAP rating in 2022. The Peugeot 408 is now priced at 175,000 shekels, a reduction of 10,000 shekels from its earlier price point. The car comes with a 3-year/100,000 km warranty, with an option to extend it to 5 years/120,000 km for an additional fee. Service intervals are set at one year or 15,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.
