Actor Dan Turgeman Sentenced to 10 Months in Prison for Tax Offenses

The Tel Aviv District Court has overturned a previous ruling, sentencing Israeli actor, director, and businessman Dan Turgeman to 10 months of actual prison time for tax offenses. The court accepted the prosecution's appeal against the leniency of the initial sentence, which had been 9 months of community service. The court also reduced the fine imposed on Turgeman from NIS 100,000 to NIS 50,000.

Turgeman was convicted in 2025, based on his plea agreement, of a series of tax offenses committed between 2008 and 2017. These included omitting income from real estate ventures and property rentals, and failing to pay capital gains tax on a property sale where ownership was registered under another person's name. The indictment, filed by the Tax and Economic Crimes Prosecution, stated the acts were intentional and aimed at tax evasion through fraud and deception.

The District Court judges, including Vice President Judge Shay Yaniv, Judge Yossi Tof, and Judge Dana Amir, emphasized that tax offenses committed with intent to evade taxes necessitate actual prison sentences, and the passage of time does not justify deviating from this principle. The court noted that its decision did not impose the maximum possible penalty.

Previously, the Magistrate's Court had set a sentencing range of 12 to 28 months imprisonment but deviated from it, citing the time elapsed since the offenses. The prosecution appealed this decision, highlighting Turgeman's systematic and prolonged pattern of tax offenses over 12 years, involving active concealment of income from his accountant and failure to issue receipts.

Dan Turgeman is known for his past marriage to actress Anat Atzmon, with whom he has two sons, musician Liam Turgeman and actor Elad Turgeman. The couple divorced in 2003 after 12 years of marriage.
