Actor Dan Turgeman Sentenced to 10 Months in Prison for Tax Offenses

The Tel Aviv District Court has increased the prison sentence for actor, director, and businessman Dan Turgeman from community service to 10 months of actual imprisonment for tax offenses. The court accepted the prosecution's appeal against the leniency of the initial sentence, which had been 9 months of community service.

In addition to the prison term, the court reduced Turgeman's fine from NIS 100,000 to NIS 50,000. Turgeman was convicted in 2025, based on his plea agreement, for a series of tax offenses committed between 2008 and 2017. These offenses included omitting income from real estate ventures and property rentals, and failing to pay capital gains tax on a property sale by registering it under another person's name.

The prosecution had argued that Turgeman engaged in a systematic and prolonged pattern of tax evasion over 12 years, using various methods to conceal his income, such as not issuing invoices and hiding income from his accountant. The indictment, filed by Adv. Pninat Ben Ami of the Tax and Economic Crimes Prosecution, stated the acts were done with intent to evade taxes through fraud and deceit.

The lower court had initially deviated from the sentencing range of 12-28 months imprisonment, citing the time elapsed since the offenses. However, the District Court panel, consisting of Deputy President Judge Shai Yaniv, Judge Yossi Tofaf, and Judge Dana Amir, emphasized the binding legal precedent that tax evasion offenses committed with intent require actual imprisonment, regardless of the time passed. The appellate court noted that its sentence did not fully exhaust the legal penalties.
