Netanyahu Defies Likud Court Order on Candidate List
The internal Likud party court has demanded that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu submit the names of his co-opted candidates for the party's electoral list by 9:00 PM on Tuesday. Netanyahu, however, stated he would provide the names on Tuesday morning, citing the need for the secretariat to have "several hours" to review them before the submission deadline of 10:00 PM that same day. The court had previously warned that a delay could result in a secret ballot for approving his candidates, rather than an open vote. A Likud representative assured journalists that Netanyahu would not permit a secret ballot. The party secretariat meeting to approve the list, initially scheduled for 11:00 AM on September 8, was postponed to 2:00 PM and may be further delayed.
