Israel's IDF to Destroy Hezbollah Strongholds in Southern Lebanon

The Israeli military (IDF) has completed clearing well-fortified Hezbollah facilities on the Ali-Taher ridge in southern Lebanon and has decided to completely destroy the remaining sites in the strategic area. The final phase of this operation will be determined in the coming days. The IDF conducted airstrikes in southern Lebanon overnight, reportedly resulting in ten fatalities, according to the Hezbollah-affiliated Al Mayadeen television channel.

These decisive actions by the IDF have created a significant challenge for Hezbollah, which is reportedly attempting to involve Iran in the conflict. Israeli security forces believe the organization aims to establish a "new deterrence formula" against Israel to prevent the destruction of the Ali-Taher infrastructure. Jerusalem is closely monitoring Washington's reaction to the developments.

Following the completion of the clearing operation, the IDF will withdraw troops to rear defensive positions. The objective is to establish a "well-fortified defensive line" by the start of the autumn holidays, while adhering to agreements with Lebanon in designated pilot zones. However, the Israeli security establishment acknowledges that satisfactory results on the ground have not yet been achieved.

This operation follows a series of IDF airstrikes on September 6th, which were a response to Hezbollah launching two explosive-laden drones toward IDF positions in the buffer zone. One of the IDF airstrikes targeted the "Randor" hospital building in Nabatiyeh el-Fawqa. Hezbollah is utilizing all available means, particularly drones, to impede the destruction of its fortified positions on the Ali-Taher ridge and within the mountain. Israeli security forces suggest the drone attack was intended to delay or halt the IDF's operation against the group's infrastructure in the area.

The IDF confirmed it will "continue to act intensively in the ridge area and southern Lebanon" and will not allow Hezbollah to harm soldiers or civilians, while emphasizing its commitment to the ceasefire agreement. Tensions surrounding the Ali-Taher ridge are expected to persist until a final decision on destroying the Hezbollah sites is made. The IDF's goal is to conclude the operation without escalating the situation to involve other fronts.
