Jerusalem Leads Israel in Births; Muhammad Most Popular Boy's Name
Israel's Population and Immigration Authority has released its annual statistics on newborn births ahead of Rosh Hashanah, revealing that 179,398 babies were registered in the past year. Jerusalem recorded the highest number of births with 23,336 newborns. Bnei Brak followed with 8,225 births, and Tel Aviv ranked third with 7,405.
Other cities with significant birth numbers included Beit Shemesh (6,974), Ashdod (4,031), Haifa (3,421), Rishon LeZion (3,413), Netanya (3,343), Petah Tikva (3,338), and Modi'in Illit (3,113).
According to the data, Muhammad was the most common name given to baby boys nationwide. Other popular male names were Ariel, Yosef, Adam, David, Omer, Raphael, Lavi, Michael, and Eitan. Within the Jewish sector, Ariel, David, Raphael, Lavi, Uri, Michael, Eliya, Eitan, Yehuda, and Ari were the most frequent choices.
For baby girls, Avigail was the most popular name across the country. Other widely chosen names for girls included Miriam, Leah, Libby, Tamar, Yael, Ayala, Sarah, Ella, and Naya. In the Jewish sector, Avigail, Libby, Tamar, Yael, Leah, Ella, Ayala, Sarah, Noa, and Naya were the most common names.
