Paramedics Save Toddler Choking on Sponge in Bnei Brak

Medical teams from Magen David Adom (MDA) successfully rescued a toddler in Bnei Brak on Wednesday after he choked on a piece of sponge. The incident occurred at approximately 2:47 PM when MDA's emergency hotline received a report of a three-year-old child in distress.

Upon arriving at the scene, paramedics found the toddler semiconscious with bluish skin, indicating a severe lack of oxygen. They quickly identified the obstruction and performed life-saving procedures, successfully removing a piece of sponge from the child's throat.

"We immediately recognized it was choking and began performing life-saving actions to remove the foreign object from his throat until a piece of sponge came out of his mouth," recounted MDA paramedics Eitan Englander and Michal Pless, along with EMT Yosef Pesach. Within seconds of the sponge's removal, the child's skin color returned to normal, and he regained full consciousness.

The toddler was then transported by an MDA intensive care unit to Rabin Medical Center-Beilinson Campus in stable condition for further observation and medical evaluation.
