A family homicide was reported Tuesday in Rehovot, where an 84-year-old man was found dead in his apartment with stab wounds. Police from the Rehovot station in the Central District arrested the victim’s son, a man in his 40s and a resident of the city, on suspicion of involvement in the killing.

According to police, the call about the stabbing reached the emergency center in the afternoon. Officers who were sent to Pekiin Street found the elderly man unconscious and with clear signs of stabbing. Magen David Adom medics pronounced him dead at the scene, and police said a knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered during the initial response.

MDA said the report came in at 1:45 p.m. to its 101 hotline in the Ayalon region. Paramedics and medics carried out medical checks, but were unable to save the man. Senior MDA medic Roni Ben Shushan said, “We joined the police who led us to the man lying unconscious, with no pulse and no breathing. We carried out medical checks, the injury was critical and we were forced to declare him dead on the spot.”

ZAKA volunteers from the Shfela region also arrived to assist. Police said the case is being treated as a suspected family murder and is part of a recent string of serious violent incidents. The suspect was taken for questioning and is expected to appear later this week before a court hearing on extending his detention. The investigation is continuing.
