Israel Reports Suspected Ebola Case in Traveler Returning From Congo

Israel's Ministry of Health is investigating a suspected case of Ebola in an individual who recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The person developed a fever and other symptoms after arriving in Israel several days ago and sought medical attention. Currently, it is only a suspicion, and necessary tests are underway, with results expected in the coming days.

The individual will be treated under isolation protocols for high-risk infectious diseases and transferred to Ichilov Medical Center in Tel Aviv, designated for such cases. The Ministry of Health is conducting an epidemiological investigation to identify potential contacts. Those not contacted by the ministry are not required to take any action at this time.

Ebola is not airborne and spreads through direct contact with an infected person's blood, bodily fluids, or secretions. The Ministry of Health has been monitoring the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and has prepared the healthcare system for potential scenarios. This preparation includes distributing guidelines to medical teams, acquiring protective equipment, establishing early detection systems for travelers from affected areas, and setting up laboratory testing capabilities.

The ministry advises against non-essential travel to areas with active Ebola outbreaks, particularly the Democratic Republic of Congo. Travelers returning from such regions who develop fever or unusual symptoms within 21 days of their trip are urged to stay home, avoid contact with others, and call the Ministry of Health's hotline, specifying their travel history. No confirmed cases of Ebola have been diagnosed in Israel to date, and the ministry will continue to provide updates.
