Suspected Ebola Case in Israel After Traveler Returns From Congo

Israel's Ministry of Health is investigating a suspected case of Ebola in a patient who recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The individual, who developed a fever and other symptoms, is currently being treated in isolation at Ichilov Medical Center in Tel Aviv. Laboratory tests are underway, with results expected in the coming days.

The Ministry of Health is conducting an epidemiological investigation to identify anyone who may have come into contact with the patient. Officials emphasized that no confirmed Ebola cases have been diagnosed in Israel to date. They are advising travelers returning from Congo who develop symptoms to remain at home as much as possible.

This is not the first suspected case of Ebola in Israel this month. Earlier in October, a similar report of a traveler returning from Congo was investigated, but the results came back negative.

The current Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is the largest in the country's history, with over 6,041 confirmed infections and 2,911 deaths reported by the government. The outbreak is caused by the Zaire strain of the virus, for which there is currently no approved vaccine or specific treatment. The Ministry of Health previously reported on a suspected case of Ebola in Israel earlier this month, which ultimately tested negative.
