Maccabi Tel Aviv Interested in Lechia Gdansk Star, Price Tag a Hurdle

Maccabi Tel Aviv is reportedly interested in signing Colombian winger Jhon Mosquera, a standout player for Polish club Lechia Gdansk. The Israeli club's pursuit faces a significant obstacle in the form of the player's asking price, which is reported to be €8 million.

According to Polish journalist Piotr Koźmiński, Maccabi Tel Aviv has shown strong interest in Mosquera, who was also a target for Rangers. However, Lechia Gdansk owner Paol Orfer is demanding a steep fee for the 23-year-old attacker.

Koźmiński noted that while the sale of Tomáš Pekhart for over €10 million previously set a precedent, €8 million is considered a high figure. He also pointed out that Maccabi Tel Aviv's transfer record stands at €3.5 million, and the transfer window in Israel closes on September 16.

Mosquera, born in Concordia, Colombia, has had a notable career trajectory. He began in Alianza Petrolera, moved to the Tigres academy in Bogotá, and was recognized by The Guardian as one of the world's best young players born in 2002. He played for Deportivo Pereira and then excelled at Latvian club Valmiera, scoring 18 goals and providing 16 assists in two years.

He joined Lechia Gdansk in February 2023 on loan from Jagiellonia Białystok, before being sold by Valmiera for €1.6 million. Mosquera has a contract until the summer of 2028 and has contributed 15 goals and 32 assists in 91 appearances for Lechia Gdansk. He can play in various attacking positions but prefers the right wing.
