Police Shoot Suspected Bethlehem Resident After Car Chase at Hashmonaim Crossing
Police stopped a stolen car near the Hashmonaim crossing on Route 446 after receiving a report that it was heading there. When the driver spotted the officers, he allegedly tried to flee, broke through the police barrier, rammed police vehicles, and, according to police, attempted to run over officers at the scene.
Officers guarding the crossing said they feared for their lives and opened fire at the vehicle, which then came to a stop. The suspect was arrested and is receiving medical treatment. Police said he is a Palestinian resident of Bethlehem.
The Hashmonaim crossing has been closed to traffic in both directions while police continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
