Police open fire on stolen car after checkpoint breach near Modi'in
Police and security guards fired at a stolen vehicle that broke through a barrier at the Hashmonaim crossing on Route 446, struck police cars, and then tried to run over officers. According to police, the suspect attempted to flee after spotting the forces that had been deployed to arrest him.
Police said they opened fire because they felt their lives were in danger. The driver, a Palestinian resident of Bethlehem, received medical treatment after the incident.
Following the shooting, the crossing was closed to vehicle traffic in both directions. The police account did not say what charges, if any, were being prepared against the driver.
