Israel Vows Action Against Settler Rioters After Confrontation in Palestinian Village

Israel's Prime Minister's Office released an unusual video statement condemning Israeli settlers who stormed a home in the Palestinian village of Qusra, located in the West Bank, while residents were inside. The settlers reportedly barricaded themselves in the house and threw stones. The Prime Minister's English spokesperson, Dror Spilman, stated that Israel's position is clear: those responsible will be arrested and prosecuted.

Despite these assurances, no arrests have been made to date. Authorities have only confiscated three vehicles. The Israeli military (IDF) initially claimed the rioters were masked, but international news agencies have circulated images clearly showing the individuals with their faces uncovered. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had previously denounced the settlers' actions as "vile violence that harms Israel's standing in the world," calling them a "handful of rioters" who harm law-abiding settlers and impede the IDF.

Netanyahu emphasized that the IDF, Shin Bet, and police are investigating and expressed his expectation that the perpetrators would be apprehended and brought to justice swiftly. Security officials told N12 that the initial IDF force arriving at Qusra faced a dilemma, as they consisted of only six reservists confronting approximately 50 settlers. The priority, according to these sources, was to separate the conflicting parties, allowing most settlers to escape.

Reinforcements from the Border Police and riot dispersal units eventually arrived, leading to the settlers' flight. Security sources described the incident as organized, involving around 70 armed settlers equipped with stones and clubs, who intended to raid village homes systematically. Palestinian reports indicate the settlers were attempting to raid homes in the village.
