Gal Gadot Confirms Final Departure From Wonder Woman Role in DC Universe Reboot

Israeli actress Gal Gadot has officially ended speculation about her return as Wonder Woman in the newly rebooted DC Universe (DCU). In a recent interview with ScreenRant ahead of her Amazon Prime thriller The Runner, Gadot stated that no discussions have taken place regarding her reprising the role or taking on any other character in the new DCU. She recalled that the last significant talks were about developing a third Wonder Woman film, which did not materialize.

Gadot expressed gratitude for having portrayed the iconic character since her debut in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, highlighting the deep affection many fans have for Wonder Woman. She wished the next actress who takes on the role an amazing journey with the character. Gadot's final appearances as Wonder Woman were brief cameos in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash, marking the end of the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

The uncertainty about her return followed James Gunn's appointment as co-CEO of DC Studios and the soft reboot of the DC cinematic universe. While some actors like Jason Momoa have transitioned into the new DCU, Gadot's involvement was unclear. Gunn later clarified that certain post-credit scenes suggesting her continued role were not canonical. Meanwhile, DCU is developing a new Wonder Woman film with Anna Nogueira writing the script, fueling speculation about a new lead.

Fans have also proposed alternative roles for Gadot within the DCU, such as Big Barda, Talia al Ghul, or Poison Ivy, but no official announcements have been made. Gadot’s statement marks a definitive farewell to the character she helped define for over seven years.
