נשיא המדינה יצחק הרצוג החליט להיעתר לבקשתו של אלאור אזריה ולמחוק את יתרת תקופת הרישום הפלילי שלו. ההחלטה התקבלה ערב יום הכיפורים, ובכך יתאפשר לאזריה להמשיך בחייו. בית הנשיא מסר כי ההחלטה התקבלה לאחר שהנשיא בחן את מכלול נסיבות המקרה והשיקולים הנוגעים לבקשה, וכן לאחר שנים ארוכות שבהן אזריה נשא בתוצאות מעשיו. הנשיא סבור כי מכלול הנסיבות, חלוף הזמן והצער שהביע אזריה מצדיקים לאפשר לו לפתוח דף חדש בחייו.
