צה"ל ושב"כ הודיעו כי חיסלו את מפקד חטיבת רפיח של ארגון הטרור חמאס. התקיפה בוצעה כחלק ממאמץ מתמשך למיטוט ארגון הטרור ברצועת עזה, ומצטרפת לחיסולם של מפקד חטיבת חאן יונס ובכירים נוספים בחמאס מוקדם יותר השבוע. ראש הממשלה בנימין נתניהו ושר הביטחון יואב גלנט מסרו הודעה משותפת, בה הדגישו כי "אף מחבל אינו חסין" וכי חמאס לא יישאר בעזה. השניים חיזקו את ידי כוחות הביטחון הפועלים להסרת האיומים ולהגנה על אזרחי ישראל.
