Israel Targets Hamas Commander in Rafah in Gaza Strike

The Israeli military and Shin Bet conducted an airstrike in southern Gaza on Tuesday, targeting the Hamas commander of the Rafah brigade, a senior figure in the organization's military wing. Reports from Gaza indicate the strike occurred in the Al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis, resulting in two deaths and 14 injuries. The attack reportedly involved a suicide drone followed by two missiles aimed at tents near the Al-Sumoud camp entrance.

This operation follows a series of recent Israeli strikes against Hamas and Islamic Jihad operatives. Notably, the commander of Hamas's Khan Younis brigade, Muhammad Yazouri, was killed days prior. The IDF stated Yazouri was involved in planning numerous terror attacks and rebuilding the brigade's capabilities. A company commander and another operative from the brigade were also killed in that strike.

Other recent targeted killings include Ahmed Bateesh, commander of the Jabalia battalion in Hamas's northern Gaza brigade, who was responsible for managing the brigade's weaponry and supplying military equipment. Additionally, two Hamas engineering operatives involved in weapons development were eliminated, along with Rafat Abu Zamer, a company commander in Hamas's operations headquarters, whom the IDF accused of training terrorists for the October 7th massacre and subsequently enhancing the group's combat abilities.

The Islamic Jihad was also targeted, with the IDF killing Mohsen Farid Said Abu Hadaf, head of a rocket cell, in Khan Younis. The IDF stated Abu Hadaf participated in the October 7th raid on the Kissufim area.
