Israel Strikes Hamas Rafah Brigade Commander in Gaza

The Israeli military and Shin Bet conducted a targeted strike in southern Gaza on Tuesday evening, aiming to assassinate the Hamas commander of the Rafah brigade. This individual is described as a senior figure within Hamas's military structure in the southern Strip.

According to reports from Gaza, the strike occurred in the Al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis. The attack reportedly involved an initial drone strike with a suicide drone, followed by two missiles fired from an aircraft. These reports claim two tents near the Al-Sumoud camp gate were targeted, resulting in two deaths and 14 injuries. The exact outcome of the strike is still under review.

This assassination attempt follows a series of recent strikes by the IDF and Shin Bet against Hamas and Islamic Jihad commanders and operatives. Notably, last week, the commander of Hamas's Khan Younis brigade, Muhammad Yazouri, was killed. The IDF stated Yazouri was involved in advancing numerous terror plots and rebuilding the brigade's strength. A company commander and another operative from the same brigade were also killed in that strike.

Other recent targeted killings include Ahmed Bateesh, a battalion commander in Hamas's northern Gaza brigade, who was responsible for managing the brigade's weaponry and supplying military equipment. Additionally, two Hamas engineering operatives involved in weapons development were eliminated, as was Rafat Abu Zamar, a company commander in Hamas's operations headquarters, who the IDF says trained terrorists for the October 7th massacre and continued to develop the organization's combat capabilities. An additional Hamas operative involved in weapons manufacturing was also killed.

The Islamic Jihad has also been targeted. Late last week, the head of a rocket cell within the organization, Muhsin Farid Said Abu Al-Daf, was killed in Khan Younis. The IDF stated he participated in the October 7th raid on the Kissufim area.
