Border Guard Officer Sentenced to Four Years for Smuggling Palestinians

A Border Guard officer serving at the Ras Bidu checkpoint, northwest of Jerusalem, has been sentenced to four years in prison by the Jerusalem District Court. The officer, born in 2006, was convicted of bribery, fraud, breach of trust, and arms dealing. Over a period of approximately three months, the defendant conspired with Palestinian drivers, allowing over 200 individuals to pass through the checkpoint without permits or security checks in exchange for payments totaling around 25,000 shekels.

According to the verdict, the officer not only facilitated unauthorized passage but also assisted illegal transporters in contacting other officers to ensure passage. The court determined that the officer was aware of the security risks involved, including potential threats to the state and its citizens.

In September 2025, the officer sold two police stun grenades to a Palestinian for 1,300 shekels. The court noted that even after a September 2025 attack at the Ramot junction, and amid concerns he might have allowed attackers to pass through his checkpoint, the officer continued his illicit activities.

While acknowledging the severity of the offenses, the court also considered the officer's young age, lack of prior criminal record, cooperation with investigators, and confession. In addition to the four-year prison sentence, he received seven months and four months of suspended sentences. The court also ordered the confiscation of 2,000 shekels but imposed no fine.
