Border Police Officer Sentenced to 4 Years for Aiding Terrorists

A Border Police officer has been sentenced to four years in prison after admitting to facilitating the passage of Palestinians without permits at a checkpoint near Jerusalem, in exchange for bribes totaling approximately 25,000 shekels. The officer, identified as Melul, was convicted based on his confession to charges brought by the Police Investigations Department.

According to the indictment, Melul established contact with Palestinians and agreed to allow individuals without permits to cross the Ras Bido checkpoint without inspection. He also confessed to stealing two police stun grenades and selling them to a Palestinian.

The Jerusalem District Court highlighted that Melul acted with full awareness of the security risks to Israel and its citizens, showing disregard for the danger he caused. The court noted that he continued his actions even after a deadly shooting attack occurred at the Ramot Junction in September 2025, despite his own fears that he had enabled the attackers' passage through his checkpoint.

Melul was convicted of bribery, fraud, breach of trust, and arms dealing. Three other Border Police officers were also convicted in the same case, and their sentencing is pending.
