Two Border Police Officers Charged with Smuggling Palestinians into Israel for Bribes

The Israeli Police Investigations Department (Mahash) has filed charges against two Border Police officers and a civilian for illegally smuggling Palestinians into Israel. According to the indictment submitted to the Jerusalem District Court, the accused served at the Al Jib checkpoint near Givat Zeev and developed personal connections with local Palestinian residents. They allowed unauthorized vehicles and passengers from Area C to enter sovereign Israeli territory without any security checks. The indictment also states that the officers passed operational and intelligence information about the checkpoint and its work arrangements.

The illegal crossings were conducted in exchange for cash payments, meals, and drinks. One of the accused officers deleted messages from his mobile phone to obstruct the judicial process. Additionally, one officer attempted to recruit other officers at the checkpoint to assist in smuggling unauthorized individuals into Israel. The charges against the officers include bribery, fraud, breach of trust, obstruction of justice, and failure to perform official duties. The civilian is charged with multiple counts of bribery, illegal transportation, driving without a license, and driving an unlicensed vehicle.
