Israeli Family Held Hostage by Taxi Driver in Athens Demands 600 Euros

An Israeli tourist family visiting Athens faced a harrowing ordeal when their taxi driver from Athens International Airport demanded 600 euros upon arrival at their downtown hotel. According to Greek police, the 38-year-old driver repeatedly threatened the family with violence and refused to let them exit the vehicle or retrieve their luggage until payment was made. The incident occurred on August 13 and has since drawn significant media attention in Greece following the driver's arrest on Tuesday. After the family reported the incident to the police unit in the Syntagma area, authorities used digital data analysis to identify and apprehend the suspect. He was charged with robbery and brought before the Athens prosecutor. Police also revealed that an additional complaint is under investigation, alleging the same driver attempted to scam another tourist for 800 euros.
