Israel Faces Continued Heatwave Before Rare August Rainfall Arrives This Weekend

Israel is experiencing a continuation of unusually high temperatures for the season, particularly in the mountainous regions and inland areas, with increased heat intensity expected through Thursday. The Meteorological Service forecasts that this heatwave will persist for another day before a significant weather change occurs over the weekend. According to Dr. Amir Givati, head of the Meteorological Service, a rare rain event is anticipated starting late Saturday night through Sunday morning, bringing autumn-like weather conditions with localized showers across northern and central Israel, including the coast, the lowlands, and inland areas. Some regions may experience heavy rainfall accumulating to double-digit millimeter amounts, especially by Sunday morning. Such rain events in August are uncommon, with two occurrences in one month being unprecedented except in a few northern locations. Temperature forecasts for Wednesday include highs reaching up to 42 degrees Celsius in Eilat and 39 degrees in Tiberias, with other major cities also experiencing above-average heat.
