Turkey Seeks Syrian Military Alliance Amid Intelligence Warnings of Jihadist Threat to Israel

Middle East analyst Yoni Ben Menachem warned that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan aims to incorporate Syria into a regional military alliance alongside Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Ben Menachem cautioned that despite appearances, Syrian jihadist leader Mohammed al-Julani's true intentions are to rebuild Syria's military with Turkish support and eventually join jihadist efforts against Israel. Meanwhile, Syria officially confirmed recent intelligence meetings between Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shibani and Israeli intelligence officials in Jordan, facilitated by the United States. These talks focused on de-escalating tensions and exploring the possibility of resuming negotiations, with Syria emphasizing that any security arrangement must respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
