Helium Balloon Causes Explosions and Delays at Ben Gurion Airport Train Station

On Monday afternoon, a helium balloon flying near the Ben Gurion Airport train station struck electrical cables, causing explosions and disruptions to train services in the area. The incident led to a cable being torn and sparks from electrical shorts, prompting the temporary closure of platform 2 and evacuation of passengers from one train. Several trains experienced delays or were halted before reaching their final destinations, affecting routes to Ben Gurion Airport, Jerusalem, and Modiin.

Passengers reported hearing multiple explosions and seeing flashes of light due to the electrical fault. One passenger, Alex, described being on a train that stopped at the station when the explosions occurred and a cable fell nearby. Announcements instructed passengers to disembark and move into the airport terminal for safety.

Israel Railways confirmed the issue as a localized fault currently being addressed. They emphasized that train operations have not been fully suspended and the station remains open and operational without a full evacuation. Some delays are expected as repairs continue, but overall service is maintained.
