Rising Small Parties Risk Toppling Major Political Blocs Ahead of Israeli Elections

As Israel approaches its upcoming elections, the increasing number of small political parties is raising concerns about their potential to significantly impact the balance between major political blocs. Political correspondent Binyamin Ashkenazi of Israel Hayom warned in a 103FM radio interview that many small parties may fail to cross the electoral threshold, leading to a substantial loss of votes on both sides of the political spectrum. He cautioned that some of these parties, despite continuing their campaigns, could ultimately cause one of the main blocs to lose critical support.

Ashkenazi also addressed recent reports about a possible political alliance between Benny Gantz and Gilad Erdan, clarifying that negotiations remain preliminary and far from any concrete agreement. He noted that no final decisions have been made, describing the talks as mere "flirtations" and emphasizing that no party is willing to concede the top spot on their list.

Regarding Erdan's statements about forming a significant political union, Ashkenazi said these remain aspirations without a solid plan. He predicted that as the election date nears and polls reveal which small parties are struggling to meet the threshold, pressure on their leaders will intensify. Ashkenazi concluded that these parties face a stark choice: either they eliminate each other or risk being excluded from the Knesset altogether.
