Rabbi Ben Zion Nesher, Esteemed Tel Aviv Rabbi and Dayan, Passes Away at 76

Rabbi Ben Zion Nesher, a prominent rabbinic authority in Tel Aviv and the rabbi of the Trumpeldor neighborhood, passed away suddenly at his home in Tel Aviv at the age of 76. Born in Tel Aviv in 1950 to Rabbi Yitzchak Nesher, a dayan in Haifa and head of a rabbinical court in Tel Aviv, Rabbi Ben Zion hailed from a distinguished rabbinic lineage including his grandfather Rabbi Moshe Grodzinski. He studied at several prestigious yeshivas, including Hebron Yeshiva in Jerusalem, where he learned under Rabbi Moshe Hevroni.

In the early 1970s, after marrying Hadassah Benziman from Jerusalem, Rabbi Nesher moved back to Tel Aviv following his father's death to lead the community and the "Shiyach Yitzchak" kollel established in his father's memory. He served as rabbi of the "Ihud Shivat Zion" community center and the Trumpeldor neighborhood for decades, gaining renown as an expert in Jewish monetary law and kashrut.

Rabbi Nesher held several key positions, including director of the slaughterhouses division at the Chief Rabbinate's kashrut department, head of the Shochtim and Bodekim union, and leader of the "Afikei Choshen" kollel. He was also a member of the Chief Rabbinate's selection committee. He authored several respected halachic works, such as the responsa "Shevi Tzion," which earned him the Tolida and Rav Kook prizes, and other significant Torah books.

He leaves behind a prominent family continuing his legacy, including his brother Rabbi Yinon Nesher of Petah Tikva and sons-in-law who are rabbis and educators. His passing is mourned deeply in the rabbinic world. May his soul be bound in the bond of life.
