Senior Tel Aviv Rabbi Ben Zion Nesher Passes Away Suddenly at 76

Rabbi Ben Zion Nesher, a prominent senior rabbi in Tel Aviv and respected authority on monetary Jewish law, died suddenly at the age of 76. He served as the head of the Beth Din for monetary matters and was the rabbi of the Trompeldor neighborhood and the "Ihud Shivat Tzion" community center in Tel Aviv. Rabbi Nesher was also the author of the acclaimed responsa collection "Shevi Tzion," which earned him the Rabbi Tolidauno and Rabbi Kook awards for Torah literature.

Born in Tel Aviv in 1950 into a distinguished rabbinic family, Rabbi Nesher studied in several prestigious yeshivot including Hebron Yeshiva in Jerusalem, where he was recognized as a prodigy. After marrying Hadassah Benziman from Jerusalem, he settled in the capital before returning to Tel Aviv to lead his community following his father's passing in 1974. He was appointed rabbi of the "Ihud Shivat Tzion" community center in 1984 and later became a leading figure in kashrut supervision and rabbinical courts, including managing the slaughterhouse division of the Chief Rabbinate's kashrut department and serving as rabbi of the Tel Aviv Shochtim and Bodekim union.

In 2011, Rabbi Nesher was appointed head of the monetary law court of the Tel Aviv Religious Council, where he was known for his integrity and wisdom. He also served on the selection committee of the Chief Rabbinate and led the "Afikei Choshen" kollel at the Nefesh Yehudi center. His family includes notable rabbis such as his brother Rabbi Yinon Nesher of Petah Tikva and his son-in-law Rabbi Aharon Tenenbaum of the "Derech Emunah" yeshiva.
