Katz Says Israel Will Keep Security Zones in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza Indefinitely
Defense Minister Israel Katz said he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are pursuing a policy under which the IDF will remain in security zones in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza for an unlimited period. He said the goal is to protect the border and nearby communities from jihadist groups.
According to Katz, those areas will be cleared of local residents and all terror infrastructure will be destroyed. He also said the government opposes any Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon despite outside pressure.
Katz added that Netanyahu has made that position clear to U.S. President Donald Trump and other senior American officials. He warned that if Iran attacks Israel over events in Lebanon, Israel will respond with full force. He did not give a timeline for any change in policy.
