Police Chase on Highway 25 Ends in Crash and Indictment of Unlicensed 19-Year-Old

A dramatic police chase unfolded on Highway 25 in Israel’s Southern District after a Yav Unit officer on a police motorcycle signaled a driver to stop for a routine inspection. The suspect, a 19-year-old resident of the Abu Qarinat tribe, refused to stop, accelerated, and tried to flee in a dangerous manner that put other road users at risk.

According to the police account, the driver used the shoulder of the road, overtook vehicles across a double solid line, and ran red lights at intersections. His evasive driving caused other cars to swerve and brake sharply. The Yav Unit officer pursued him on the motorcycle, and the chase continued until the suspect turned toward the Bedouin dispersion area, lost control of the vehicle, and hit a traffic island.

Police said the suspect struggled and resisted arrest, but officers subdued him and took him to Dimona police station for further questioning. Investigators later determined that he had never obtained a driver’s license and that the vehicle was not insured.

On June 9, 2026, the Southern District Prosecution, Negev arrests unit, filed a serious indictment in Beersheba Magistrate’s Court. The charges include reckless driving, driving without a license, driving without insurance, crossing a double solid line, driving through a red light, obstructing a police officer in the line of duty, and overtaking across a solid line. Yav Unit commander Lt. Cmdr. Yuri Muzubovsky said the fight against dangerous drivers is a central mission and that those who ignore police instructions and endanger the public will face determined enforcement.
