Police Chase in Bedouin Area Ends in Crash and Arrest

A 19-year-old from the Abu Krinat tribe has been charged in Beersheba Magistrate’s Court after allegedly fleeing a police checkpoint and driving dangerously on Highway 25 in the South. According to the indictment, the incident began during a proactive enforcement operation by officers from the Yoav Unit in the Southern District, when one officer tried to stop the suspect’s car for a routine inspection.

The driver allegedly ignored police instructions and sped off, driving along the roadside, overtaking vehicles, crossing a double solid line, and running red lights at intersections. Police say his actions forced other drivers to brake sharply or swerve from their lanes, creating a serious danger to road users.

A Yoav Unit officer on a police motorcycle pursued the vehicle in an attempt to arrest him. The chase ended when the suspect entered the Bedouin diaspora area, lost control of the car, hit a traffic island, and was detained. Police say he then became unruly and physically resisted arrest before being taken to the Dimona police station.

Yoav Unit commander Chief Superintendent Yuri Muzobovsky said, “The fight against criminal drivers who endanger the public’s lives is a central mission for Yoav Unit officers.” He added, “Anyone who chooses to drive without a license, ignore police instructions and commit serious traffic offenses while endangering road users will meet the determined and uncompromising action of our forces,” and said police will keep using all available tools to protect the public and keep dangerous drivers off the road.
