A dramatic police chase unfolded in northern Israel when officers from the Northern District Police and Border Police pursued a suspicious vehicle that fled at high speed on Route 70. The driver ignored repeated loudspeaker orders to stop and continued driving dangerously, including running red lights, using the shoulder, and overtaking vehicles in risky maneuvers that endangered other road users.
Police ultimately stopped the car with help from roadblocks set up by additional patrol vehicles near Tamra. When the vehicle was searched, officers discovered five West Bank residents from the Hebron area inside, all without permits to stay in Israel. Two of them were found hiding in the trunk.
All five suspects were arrested and taken for questioning. Police also detained the car owner, a 20-year-old resident of the Bedouin diaspora in the south, who is suspected of having driven the vehicle. The suspects were brought before court, their detention was extended, and after the investigation, indictments were filed against them at Haifa Magistrate’s Court through the Galilee North Prosecution Unit, along with a request to keep them in custody until the end of proceedings. The investigation into the transporter is still ongoing.
Police said the Northern District and Border Police are continuously working to protect the public through targeted enforcement against employment, transport and lodging of illegal residents in Israel. They added that they are fighting everyone who helps illegal entrants remain in the country and will use all available means to bring them to justice.
