Police Chase Ends With Arrest of Banned Driver in Northern Israel

Police in northern Israel apprehended a 22-year-old man from Tamra after a high-speed chase on Highway 85. The pursuit began when the driver failed to stop for police officers and proceeded to drive recklessly. The chase concluded near the entrance to the town of Deir al-Asad.

According to police, officers initially attempted to stop the vehicle to check its registration. The driver refused and sped away, initiating the pursuit. During the chase, the suspect allegedly drove on the shoulder of the road, made dangerous overtakes, and ran through multiple red lights as he headed towards Deir al-Asad.

Upon reaching the entrance to Deir al-Asad, the driver stopped the car and abandoned it, attempting to flee and hide from officers. Police located and arrested the suspect after a search. The arrest followed a series of violations observed during the pursuit, including failure to obey police orders, dangerous driving, and running red lights.

Further investigation revealed that the driver was under a court order prohibiting him from driving, effective since 2024. He was taken to a police station for questioning on suspicion of dangerous driving and disobeying officers. The vehicle he was driving has been impounded.

The suspect faces charges related to dangerous driving, failure to comply with police instructions, and driving while prohibited by a court order. The police statement did not provide further details on subsequent legal proceedings.
