Israel Overhauls Disabled Parking Permit System Based on Medical and Social Security Criteria

The Israeli Ministries of Finance and Transportation have announced a reform to the issuance process of disabled parking permits. Under the new system, permits will be granted based on medical functional assessments and eligibility for National Insurance Institute disability benefits. This marks a shift from previous criteria and aims to standardize the evaluation process.

Additionally, the reform will eliminate the practice of linking a single disabled parking permit to multiple vehicles. The only exception will be for parents of disabled children, who must report vehicle use in real time through a dedicated app. This measure is intended to prevent misuse and ensure permits are used appropriately.

The new regulations will take effect starting this year. Temporary permits that expire will not be renewed unless the holder meets the updated eligibility requirements. This change is expected to tighten control over permit distribution and usage, improving fairness and compliance.
