Israeli Cybersecurity Unicorn Pentera Lays Off Dozens Amid AI-Driven Market Shift

Israeli cybersecurity unicorn Pentera announced layoffs of approximately 60 employees, about half of whom are based in Israel. This reduction represents around 14% of the company's current workforce of 430. The company attributes the layoffs to rapid changes in the market driven by the dramatic growth and validation of artificial intelligence capabilities.

This marks the second round of layoffs at Pentera within six months. Earlier this year, in April, the company cut about 40 positions, primarily in marketing and administrative roles, reducing its staff from 470 to the current number. Pentera is a government-approved supplier providing cybersecurity verification services to most Israeli government ministries.

Pentera recently raised $60 million in March 2025 at a valuation exceeding $1 billion, bringing its total capital raised to around $250 million. The company specializes in automated penetration testing and cybersecurity defense validation and has been focusing on AI-based solutions over the past year. Last week, Pentera announced a technological integration with cybersecurity giant Recorded Future and plans to continue hiring AI-experienced personnel despite the layoffs.

A company spokesperson explained that Pentera is completing its transformation into an "AI Native" platform to offer clients solutions tailored to AI challenges by embedding artificial intelligence throughout its workflows. The layoffs are described as a difficult but necessary step to meet growth targets and maintain agility in a rapidly evolving market.
