Israeli Cybersecurity Unicorn Pentera Cuts 60 Jobs Amid AI-Driven Market Shift
Israeli cybersecurity unicorn Pentera announced layoffs of approximately 60 employees, about half of whom are based in Israel. This reduction represents roughly 14% of the company's current workforce of 430. The company attributes the layoffs to rapid changes in the market driven by the dramatic growth and validation of artificial intelligence capabilities. This marks the second round of layoffs at Pentera within six months; earlier this year in April, the company cut around 40 jobs, primarily in marketing and administrative roles, from a then workforce of 470.
Pentera is a government-approved supplier providing cybersecurity validation services to most Israeli government ministries. In its most recent funding round in March last year, the company raised about $60 million, achieving a valuation exceeding $1 billion and bringing total capital raised to approximately $250 million. Pentera specializes in automated penetration testing and cybersecurity defense validation, with a recent focus on developing AI-based solutions.
Last week, Pentera announced a technological partnership and integration with cybersecurity giant Recorded Future. Despite the layoffs, sources indicate the company plans to continue hiring AI-experienced professionals. Pentera stated it is completing a transformation to become an "AI Native" platform, embedding artificial intelligence throughout its operations to meet evolving AI challenges and maintain rapid growth. The company expressed regret over the layoffs, acknowledging the contributions of the departing employees.
