Israeli Captive Survivor Urges Execution of Terrorists, Sparking Al Jazeera Backlash

Breslavski personally requested to carry out the executions himself, saying, "I want to be the one to hang them, I don’t want a rope or a button, I want to execute all terrorists in Israel with my own hands." The discussion comes in the wake of the Knesset’s recent approval of a law allowing the death penalty for terrorists, passed by a majority of 62 to 48 votes after intense political debate. The legislation, championed by the Otzma Yehudit party and supported by Shas, mandates the death penalty for terrorists who commit murder, particularly in the West Bank.

The new law specifies that the Defense Minister will instruct the military commander to impose the death penalty on non-Israeli residents of the West Bank convicted of terror murders, with the military court able to reduce the sentence to life imprisonment only under exceptional circumstances. Execution is to be carried out by hanging within 90 days of the law’s enactment, with the Prime Minister authorized to delay it for up to 180 days for special reasons. Additionally, the law prohibits the government from releasing terrorists sentenced to death in prisoner exchange deals.
