Israel Wins Team Gold at European Marathon Championships with Ayala Taking Individual Bronze

The Israeli marathon team secured the gold medal in the team competition at the European Marathon Championships on Sunday, marking their second consecutive and third overall team title. The Israeli runners finished with a combined time of 6:28:37, placing them first among competing nations. Individually, Israeli runner Ayala Gashu earned a bronze medal with a time of 2:09:21, improving on his silver medal from the previous year and achieving a second consecutive European Championship medal.

The individual gold was claimed by Germany's Amanuel Petros, who set a new competition record with a time of 2:09:11. Pietro Riva took silver, finishing just seven seconds behind Petros at 2:09:18, while Ayala crossed the line three seconds after Riva. A touching moment followed the race as Petros and Ayala embraced and congratulated each other.

Other Israeli team members also delivered strong performances: Tedesa Getahon finished fifth with 2:09:31, and Ayimero Almaia placed eighth at 2:09:45. Their combined results contributed to Israel's top team time. Germany finished second in the team rankings, and France took bronze. The Israeli squad also included prominent runners Maru Teferi, Yitayew Abuhay, and Bokayo Melde. Almaia entered the competition after placing fourth at last year's World Championships.

This victory adds to Israel's growing achievements in marathon running, securing their second consecutive and third overall European team championship. For Ayala, the bronze medal represents another step on the European podium, following his silver medal last year.
