Israel Wins Team Gold and Ayala Geshao Takes Bronze at European Athletics Marathon
The Israeli marathon team secured a historic victory at the European Athletics Championships on Sunday, winning the team gold medal for the second consecutive time and the third time overall. The combined finishing time of the Israeli runners was 6:28:37, placing them first among competing nations. Individually, Emanuele Petros claimed the gold medal with a championship record time of 2:09:11, followed by Pietro Riba who took silver at 2:09:18. Ayala Geshao, who won silver last year, earned the bronze medal with a time of 2:19:21. After the race, Petros and Geshao embraced and congratulated each other.
Other notable Israeli performances included Tedesa Getahon finishing fifth (2:09:31) and Ayimero Almaia placing eighth (2:09:45). The leading Israeli trio consisted of Maru Teferi, Ayala Geshao, and Ayimero Almaia, supported by Tedesa Getahon, Yitayau Abohayi, and Bukayo Melda. Their combined efforts secured Israel’s top team position, ahead of Germany in second and France in third.
In the women's marathon, Salomvit Bayulin-Teferi finished 11th with a time of 2:28:26, marking her second career participation in the marathon. Maor Tiuri finished just behind her in 12th place with a time of 2:30:17. This continued success highlights Israel’s growing prominence in European marathon running.
